Right across from the New Brunswick train station, a new skyline is rising. HELIX — the Health + Life Science Exchange — is a research, medical and innovation campus designed to make downtown New Brunswick a hub for health and life-science companies.
What is HELIX?
HELIX is a public-private development led by the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) with Rutgers University and state partners. It is planned as a multi-building campus where medical education, university research and private-sector startups work side by side.
The H-1 tower
The first building, H-1, is a 13-story tower of roughly 574,000 square feet. It is home to Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and translational research space, and to the New Jersey Innovation Hub — a life-science incubator that opened in July 2026 with a first group of startup companies, shared lab equipment and office space.
What comes next
- H-2 — a lab and office building planned for Nokia Bell Labs
- H-3 — a planned mixed-use residential tower
